Kenai River Fly Fishing Report 2008 Season

Give this player a shot for some great guest photos.

Other highlights included:

Early to Mid Season

Clearer than normal water and lots of sight fishing to large rainbows with streamers and flesh flies.  Water was also good for some traditional nymph and even a little dry fly action.

July Rainbow Trout from the Kenai River

Sockeye Runs

Sockeye runs were average and that meant the trout fed heavily all the way through the spawn.  Great sight fishing for sockeyes in the clearer water.

Chrome June Sockeye

Silver Runs

Great numbers of silvers always coincide with less commercial harvesting of sockeye.  Many fish from mid August into October.

Kenai River Silver Salmon

Late Fall Trout

Plenty of spawn and great water levels for flesh piles.  Both blind and sight fishing was fantastic.  It was about as good as it gets!

Fat Fall Kenai River Rainbow and Dolly Varden

Our Alaska summer was nearly non-existent.  We had spring and fall with a few mild days scattered around.  The sun did shine, but clouds were the norm.  In short, it was fantastic fishing weather throughout, with near normal river flows.  Our guiding season ended in a snowstorm, with a savage fish bite.  Many great fish were landed this season past, and many fine days were shared with friends on the Mystic Waters.
